Section 41 Wing Attachment

 RV14 Build August 21

Wing Attachment

Big day going for the wing attachment!

Te 2 drift pins we made and the safety wire to help pull them out.

Getting the shop ready.

Using a workbench to line up the wings

Quickly found out the workbench was the wrong height and switch to Matt power and a bar stool.

I'm still not sure how this happened but the wing root fairing mount was installed 1" too far forward and interfered with the wing.

While matt held the wing I used a dremel and snips to cut and trim it back.

The other side we trimmed before installing the wing, but the wing tank double was too long by 1/32 of an inch so I had to use the same technique and trim it back while matt held the wing.

Close up after the trimming.

I decided to install wing root filters instead of the one in the center channel. 1 they will be easier to service and 2 there isn't a single filter that can get clogged from a bad tank now.

Measuring for a stand off.

View from the bottom all installed.

The hole on the wing walk fairing mount dont line up now because it was installed the wrong way. So I had to match drill these in place and move the nut plates.

Took some time but in the end it all worked out.

Nut plates re installed. I was able to reuse 1 of the original rivet holes.

Time to link up the controls

The 2 side sticks dont sit at the same location. This one is 2 16/32 the other was 2 13/32.

SO the angle at neutral was 1.5degrees different.

Cans says this is minor and to build on.

Taping the elevator to set the neutral position.

Time to install the Flaps and Ailerons now that they are in!

Same hole always need counter sunk on the quickbuild flight controls.

Rigging the flaps to the correct angle.

Measuring for the correct gap and sanding to get it.

First time she is out in the sun!

Section 41: Wing Attachment

Rv14 Build September and October

Wing Attachment

Since Im not ready to mount the wings there is only a few things I can do in this section. I primed the wing walk gap covers.

Prime the support for the wing walks.

Riveting on the supports

Done and done, keeping the different support in the correct location proved to be challenging. I wish I was more careful in labeling when priming.

Found out these holes are not countersunk or dimpled on the tank to install the wing gap fairings so I had to do that.

Making the pushrods for the flaps.

Flap pushrods.

Ive decided to buy these from aircraft specialty. They have a mod to change these and add fuel filters in the wing area for easier service and to have a seperate filter on each tank.

Bending the vent lines. Had the plans printed to the proper scale, that should help with the fit.

Still haven't figured out the bender perfectly, but I was able to get these bends to scale.

Finished vent lines.
