Section 46B Wheel Fairings- Gear Leg and Intersection

 RV14 Build August 21

These wheel and gear leg fairings are never ending! Maybe I should have left them for the painters lol. Moching, timing, sanding. Repeat.... for hours.

Match drilling the lower intersection fairing for nutplates.

Match drilling the upper intersection fairing for nutplates.

Building up the matting surface with flux of the upper and lower intersection fairing.

Fairing after building up the matting surface.

Installing a nylock nut into flux to hold the aft edge closed.

I layed up 3 layers of fiberglass to make a flange to install nut plated on the lower intersection fairing. This will allow screws to hold the aft edge closed.

Completed layup with match drilled holes for the screws.

Using electrical tape to make sure the 2 halves of the wheel fairings dont bond together.

Taping the edge of the upper and lower intersetion fairings.

Getting ready to lay in flux to help form the transition between the wheel pants and the fairings.
Flux is in. I suck at this part, I ended up sanding and reworking each wheel probably 5 times lol

Use peel ply to help form the shape for less sanding.

After several attempts and lots of sanding on both sides. Finally a good fit.

Wheel Fairings 51.5 Hours
