Avionics Panel- Radio stack, Final Panel Install and Power up

RV14 Build February

Avionics Panel

This section takes a LONG time since there isn't plans you have to figure it out and execute all on your own.

Time for the radio stack. I slid everything into place to see how it would sit and with having the GNX375 on the bottom the rear end was help up by the subpanel and made the front tip. You can barely see behind the faceplate of the GNX near the top edge but not the bottom.

If I lift up the front of the unit the gap goes away. I know this is next to nothing but I want it to be flush!

So I take a few measurements and start removing material.

At first I tried to do it with sand paper but it was painfully slow. so break out the dremel and get it close. Finish with the sandpaper.

Almost there.

Ahh. Nice and fluhs. Time to mount the avionics racks.

For a second I thought about nutplates, but using #6 nylock nuts was way simpler.

Lucky for me my panel is all one piece and I didn't need a nuplate here to attach the center because it would have interfered with the rack mounting nuts.

All installed!

Close up of the panel after the V speeds were fixed.

Time for the final panel install and hook up.

All the switches are back in and hooked up.

Screen and the radios are in

MFD hidden plate and iPad mount is in.

Just need to finish the antenna cables. Stein has a nice youtube video on how to do this.

Cut back the plastic

Remove the shielding then cut the plastic back to the next line.

Cut/Removed the center insulator

Install the pin and crimp. Test with a voltmeter.

Install the collar and the end and crimp.

Now that the antennas cables are done, hook up the antennas before turning on power. Then Happy dance!
